Proof of Us
Breathing you in
as though the room held none;
my lungs made sudden claim
to all the air you were.
A kiss
so still
it startled breath;
I, as snow arrests the bird;
lived on what you left behind;
a miracle
conferred,
I parted,
just to test the world
(It failed -
most perfectly)
for nothing else
could teach my chest
such vast necessity.
