typewriter confessions

A poem - and some illustrated journal entries

These poems

are typewritten confessions,

the frantic click-clack

of overworked keys,

each stroke a bruise

on my battered mind.

Every inch of my soul bled out,

cheap paper

soaked in the ink

of half-lived lives,

secrets smudged

across dog-eared margins,

destined for quiet oblivion.

A fevered litany of crimes,

never meant

for the light of another's gaze,

only for my own slow drowning —

this endless,

ceaseless

self-condemnation.

These poems are desperate testaments,

wild,

erratic thoughts that spill,

unbidden,

through trembling hands,

onto blank,

blameless pages,

staining their pristine whiteness

with the dirt of my deeds,

the sordid script of all I’ve wronged.

Classified sins,

crumpled,

thrown about this cluttered room

like lost children,

searching,

always searching,

for a corner

that might hold them.
